Projekt OSP’s main initiative is to equip, maintain, and improve Slovenian outdoor rock climbing crags.
How does Projekt OSP operate?
Projekt OSP is a non-profit association that relies entirely on donations and sponsorships. It is part of a broader system supporting climbing infrastructure in Slovenia and works closely with organisations such as the Alpine Association of Slovenia (Planinska zveza Slovenije, PZS), nature protection agencies and others.
Who runs the organisation?
Well, you guessed it – it is run by volunteers and supported by the climbing community in Slovenia. We are people who care about climbing and want to ensure that climbing sites remain safe, accessible, and preserved for future generations.
What are the main activities?
Projekt OSP’s main priority is bolting and re-bolting climbing routes, replacing worn safety equipment and improving infrastructure in climbing areas across the country.
However, there is much more:
- the project acts as a communication bridge between climbers, local communities and route setters;
- it organises training courses for new route setters every year;
- it collects reports on damaged anchors, worn bolts, and other unsafe conditions at climbing sites;
- it ensures fast response and long-term maintenance of climbing areas;
- it develops new climbing routes, expands existing climbing areas and is always on the lookout for new promising climbing crags;
- it works on informing and educating the climbing community on different issues;
- it works closely with locals, municipalities, nature protection, bird specialists and any other parties with whom we share the rocks;
- it works on developing safe standards and certified equipment for climbing routes for all levels.
What are the main priorities of Projekt OSP?
Our goal is to keep climbing sites safe, accessible, and well-maintained, while helping the climbing community grow stronger, more connected and minimizing its impact on nature.
A key idea behind the project is that climbing areas in nature are safe, free to use, and developed to meet the needs of the climbing community. As climbing has become more popular, pressure on natural climbing sites has increased, making maintenance even more important. That’s why Projekt OSP encourages climbers to help look after the crags and give something back to the community.
How can you support us?
- You can make a donation by sending a SMS with keyword “projektosp5” to 1919 (this contributes 5 EUR to our project) or by using a UPN payment slip.
- From May 2026, you can also stop by one of the climbing centres listed below* and drop a donation into our box. In return for a donation, supporter stickers are available at these centres (limited stock).
*We are currently having our donation boxes in the following climbing centres: climbing centre Prevalje, Klajmber Maribor, climbing centre Slovenska Bistrica, Bolderaj Celje, climbing centre Celje, Bolder scena Ljubljana, Bolder scena Kranj, Balvanija, climbing centre Ljubljana, DEŠ Nova Gorica, Plac Kočevje, Frikšn Novo Mesto and Plezarna Kranj.
- As an organisation, you can support us through financial sponsorship, equipment donations (such as bolts, anchors and tools), or various services such as t-shirt printing and other communication support.
- We also appreciate support from local alpine sections through “tečajniških5” (where each participant of the course donates 5 EUR to our project). This small contribution plays an important role in raising awareness and building a culture of shared responsibility for climbing sites.
- Last but not least, it doesn’t have to be complicated – even picking up some trash the next time you visit a climbing crag makes a difference.
Interesting fact:
Despite its name, Projekt OSP is not limited to the village of Osp in Slovenia. The name comes from the abbreviation “Opremimo slovenska plezališča” meaning “let’s equip Slovenian climbing areas”, reflecting its nationwide scope.
